Creating a Virtual Database in Dimension Designer

Dimension Designer allows you to operate and focus on one VDB at a time. (see Virtual Database Summary ).

Step 1: In the VDB Explorer, click on the Create VDB action New VDB in the toolbar or select New VDB from the File menu

Step 2: In the New VDB dialog’s Location: field specify the directory on your file system in which the new VDB will be located.  Click OK

Step 3: The new empty VDB will appear in the VDB Explorer.

In addition to creating a new VDB, you can do the following operations:

Note: If a VDB is currently open in Designer, it will be validated, saved and closed for you prior to opening the next VDB.

Note: This will close the VDB, remove it from the VDB Explorer view and delete the VDB from the file system.

Note: This will save the VDB if models have changed, open the SQL Eplorer perspective and open connections to your datasources. From this perpective you can query your source data via the SQL Editor.
